What does it mean to be an adult? or rather, What does it mean to be an actual adult?
These are 2 questions that have been floating around in my mind for the last couple of weeks, since my 24th birthday. Does being an adult mean that you start acting more mature/ acting your age? If that’s the case then I’m definitely not there yet because my maturity level is more like- I don’t know, 15. Although I disagree with this, I don’t think the age you act has anything to do with being an adult or not being an adult. The way that I look at age is that it’s nothing but a number and a stupid one at that. The way that I see it is that you’re only as old as you feel.
What I have now decided that what it means to be an adult is that it has to do with how much more responsibility you now have. Like for insentience as an adult, you have to take care of yourself, support yourself and possibly a family, hold down a job, and also pay your bills. As of right now, I’m still living at home with my parents, and yeah right now I’m in a place of financial comfort. Although I do want to move out eventually, this is also what I’m dreading. Will I be able to make enough money to pay my bills, and also live comfortably? With the job I have now, I know I couldn’t. I guess in some cases being an adult can really suck.
Whats your opinion on being an adult? Feel free to let me know in the comments.
